Discrimination

defined as the unlawful discernment and rejection of subjects with undesirable qualitites

Discriminating between people on the grounds of merit is generally lawful in Western democracies. Discrimination on other grounds, such as skin color or religion, generally is not. When unlawful discrimination takes place, it is often described as discrimination against a person or group of people.

TYPES

Race discrimination

differentiates between individuals on the basis of real and perceived racial differences. It has been official government policy in several countries one of which is South Africa.

Age discrimination

discrimination against a person or group on the grounds of age. Although theoretically the word can refer to the discrimination against any age group, age discrimination usually comes in one of three forms: discrimination against youth, discrimination against those 40 years old or older ,and discrimination against elderly people.

Gender discrimination

discrimination against a person or group on the grounds of sex or gender identity.

Language discrimination

discrimination due to their preferred language is associated with a particular group, class or category.

Disability discrimination

discrimination brought about by the society's notion that people with disabilities are inferior.

WHY?

people are generally afraid of what they don't understand and as people continue to segregate themselves from the minorities, they only create more space among themselves which creates more misconceptions thus fueling the spread of discriminative entities.

WHAT TO DO?

GO ONTO THE CORE OF THE PROBLEM! The lack of understanding towards other people create discrimination, thus, we must get rid of the source by means of education and other means of teaching the people and showing them the error of discriminating.
